Owensboro, KY:  The Alice Lloyd College Eagles traveled to Owensboro over the weekend and used solid defense to defeat the Brescia University Lady Bearcats 64-56. The River States Conference match-up took place on Saturday, December 7.

In the opening quarter, the two squads both played tight. However, ALC limited the hosts to just 8 points and would lead 11-8 after ten minutes. In the second stanza, each team began to find their shooting eye. Lady Eagle Shelby Davis would score 7 points in the frame to boost her club to a 31-25 lead at intermission.

The girls from Caney would have a battle on their hands as BU kept the contest close. Although the home squad won the scoring war in the third period, the Lady Eagles would still take a 48-43 lead into the final quarter.

In the last stanza, the Lady Bearcats would get as close as two points, but junior guard Haley Hall and Davis would team up to score the last nine points for ALC and help their squad pull away for the nice road win.

For the Lady Eagles (6-4; 1-1 RSC), Hall would lead all scorers with 16 points. She also led the way with 3 steals. Senior guard Katie Moore and Davis stepped up by sinking 12 and 11 points respectively, while junior Bailee Brainard came through by contributing 9 points and a game-high 4 blocks. She also tied Hall for the lead in rebounds as each snagged 7.

Alice Lloyd finished shooting 43.6% (24-55) from the field, including 35.3% (6-17) from long range. They connected on just 50% (10-20) from the foul line. They also added 51 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 steals.

For West Division foe BU (3-12; 0-2 RSC), guards Princess Holloway and Cassidy Moss each had 12 points. Their club shot 26.8% (22-82) from the floor and 24% (6-25) from behind the arc. They sank 54.5% (6-11) from the foul line. They also added 45 rebounds, 8 assists, and 13 steals.

ALC returns to action on Monday, December 14th when they travel to Indiana to face Indiana University-Kokomo in an important conference match at 1:00 pm. They then return home on Monday, December 16th to battle NCCAA foe Welch College at 1:00 pm.

After Christmas, the club travels on December 30th to Tennessee to face Milligan College at 2:0 pm. They then close out 2019 with an exhibition game on New Year’s Eve against NCAA DII Tusculum University at 1:00 pm.
