Alice Lloyd is committed to educating tomorrow’s leaders — young people from Appalachia with new ideas, talents, and abilities. Those who will stay in the region, equipped with the skills and credentials necessary to uplift it. The College is embarking on what is one of the most important undertakings in its history: the establishment of a Center for Entrepreneurial Development.

As Alice Lloyd College begins another exciting semester, the College is proud to announce the arrival of three new staff members and one faculty member for the Fall 2012 academic session.

Opening Convocation at Alice Lloyd College took place on September 11th, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Estelle Campbell Arts Center with Terry Dean Jacobs as the guest speaker.

On September 4th Alice Lloyd College was featured in a segment on The Today Show called “How to Attend College for Little to No Money.” The video highlights a select group of “tuition free” colleges across America. Alice Lloyd was one of only five schools mentioned in the report.

Alice Lloyd College’s Caudill Players travelled to Jenkins, KY on August 25, 2012 to join in on the Jenkins’ City Centennial Celebration.

Alice Lloyd College has been blessed with producing extraordinary alumni who give back to the College in many unique and helpful ways. Recently, George Johnson, who received a degree from the College in 1974, and his brother Greg, both founding members of Johnson Industries in Pikeville, KY, presented ALC Vice President Jim Stepp with an electric car.

January is usually seen as the month of new beginnings; but, here at Alice Lloyd College, the time to begin again is now. Each year, in the month of August, the College conducts its Fall Orientation, which is designed to introduce freshmen and transfer students to life on campus.

It is late August in Pippa Passes, Kentucky, and the campus of Alice Lloyd College is alive and expectant with a special kind of feeling: change. It’s not just that there is the hint of autumn in the thick, deep forests that surround the College; no, this change is much more important and far more exciting. The fall semester of 2012 will witness one of the largest crops of new students to ever venture onto the banks of Caney Creek. That’s over two hundred Appalachian young people, all of them dreaming of a better future. All of them capable of leading an entire region.

A recent Yahoo! Finance report prominently featured Alice Lloyd College in a fantastic study that highlighted ways in which students could obtain a more affordable education.

The cost of getting a college education is on the rise, but Alice Lloyd College is remaining true to its long-standing mission of making an ALC education available to qualified mountain students regardless of their financial situation. So dedicated is the College to this mission, in fact, that CBS-affiliate, WYMT-TV, visited campus to discover why our students are not worried about the nation’s current student debt crisis. The report was the top story on the station’s evening news broadcast.
