Award-Winning Filmmaker to Visit Alice Lloyd

The next event in the Caney Convocation Series is sure to be a special treat on the spring calendar. Elaine McMillion-Sheldon, an award-winning documentary storyteller and visual journalist from West Virginia, will present her film, Hollow, to our campus community. Hollow has already garnered national attention and prestigious awards, landing McMillion-Sheldon on Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film. Please join us for this exciting event on Tuesday, April 1st, at 7:30 PM in the Ralph Edwards Auditorium on the campus of Alice Lloyd College.

Call for Submissions: The 2014 Billie and Curtis Owens Writing Contest

The English Department at Alice Lloyd College is pleased to announce the 2014 Billie and Curtis Owens Writing Contest! Submissions can be made to three categories: Poetry, Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction (Personal Essay). First to third place will be awarded in each category. The standings, along with cash prizes, will be revealed during April 15th’s Honors Day convocation.

Ly Honored By Kentucky Academy of Science

Han Gia Ly, senior biology major at Alice Lloyd College, recently won third place in the 99th Annual Kentucky Academy of Science research competition for her presentation on botany research. Held on November 8-9, 2013 at Morehead State University, the prestigious meeting was attended by nearly 800 scientists, professors, and students from colleges all across the state.

Students Compete in James V. Mongiardo Speech Competition

The 22nd Annual James V. Mongiardo Public Speaking Contest was held on February 25, 2014, at the Campbell Arts Center. This competition was established by the Mongiardo family in honor of the late James V. Mongiardo, who graduated from Alice Lloyd College in 1934 and was a faithful supporter of the College over the years.

Eagles Defeat Brescia, 75-71, to Reach KIAC Final Four

The Alice Lloyd Eagles made the long trek to Owensboro, Kentucky on Tuesday, February 25th, to battle the Brescia Bearcats. In this quarterfinal matchup of the KIAC Tournament, ALC was thought to be the underdog. Despite the challenge of having to face a higher seed on their home court, the Eagles were able to rally late in the second half to force overtime and prevailed in the extra period, 75-71.

Alice Lloyd to Host KIAC Basketball Tournament

Alice Lloyd College is pleased to announce that it will be the host of the 2014 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (KIAC) Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament. Games in the tournament’s Final Four, as well as the Championship games, will be played at the College’s Grady Nutt Athletic Center on Friday, February 28th and Saturday, March 1st.
