Alice Lloyd College Celebrates Alumna and Alumnus of the Year
On September 21st, Alice Lloyd College held the twenty-second annual Alumna and Alumnus of the Year banquet in the historical Cushing Hall. The banquet recognized two Alumni for their exemplification of the core values of the Purpose Road Philosophy. Mabel Childers (Class of 1954) and Dr. Clenon Turner (Class of 1961) gathered with family and friends to celebrate their lives of service.

Alice Lloyd College Names the Joseph W. Craft III School of Business and Appalachian Leadership
On September 18th, Alice Lloyd College held a dedication ceremony for the naming of the Joseph W. Craft III School of Business and Appalachian Leadership. Joe Craft, President and CEO of Alliance Resources Partners LP, attended and spoke to the students, faculty, and staff on his Appalachian upbringing and his personal insights into achieving success in life.
ALC Hosts First Great Caney Hackathon
On September 15th, Alice Lloyd College hosted the first ever Great Caney Hackathon. The student participants were given a problem to solve concerning specific issues concerning health and education in Appalachia. Over a 24 hour period, the students relentlessly worked in groups and individually with professors to generate solutions to the challenge placed before them.

Katelyn Collins: Living a Life of Service
Katelyn Collins is a senior from Logan County, West Virginia, majoring in Sociology. Upon graduation in 2019, she plans to work in a hospital or hospice as a Social Worker in Gerontology. When asked why she chose to come to Alice Lloyd College, she explained, “I wanted to come to a small college that is close to home but also far away; I am only two hours from home which is perfect for me.”

ALC Alumnus Named President of The American College of Financial Services
Alice Lloyd College 1980 Alumnus George Nichols III went from his time along the banks of Caney Creek to an enormously successful career in the financial services profession, both in the public and private sectors. It is this extensive career that has uniquely qualified Mr. Nichols to serve as the new president and chief executive officer for The American College of Financial Services.

On Saturday, August 25th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team under the guidance of Coach Nathan Hall, opened the new season by hosting a tri-match at home against Hiwassee (TN) and Boyce College (KY).

Colbi Johnson: Giving Her All for Service
Colbi Johnson is an Alice Lloyd College sophomore who is a Knott County, Kentucky native seizing the opportunity to be a force of change in Central Appalachia by becoming a servant leader. A 2016 graduate of Hazard High School, she excelled in both academic and athletic pursuits. Colbi was offered scholarships to a wide array of schools; however, based upon her mother’s experiences at Alice Lloyd College, she knew that there was a local school where she could “stay close, yet go far.”

Alice Lloyd College is known for producing the best teachers in the Appalachian region which is due, in no small part, to the efforts of education professor, Dr. Steve Herr. Even in his spare time, Dr. Herr insists that he is always reading and building on his own education.
