The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles hosted the Indiana University Southeast Lady Grenadiers on Saturday, February 1st. The Lady Eagles were hoping for the season sweep, having won at IUS earlier in the semester. ALC dominated from start to finish, and won by the final score of 83-61.

Alice Lloyd was going for their second consecutive win and fifth victory in their last six games. The rout was on from the get-go as ALC opened the game on a 24-4 run. Southeast regrouped to make the game a little tighter, but the hosts still held a commanding lead at intermission (41-27).

In the second half, the Lady Eagles were never threatened as they quickly extended the lead against their conference foes and outscored them 42-34 to close out the contest.

For the victors, (13-7, 8-3 KIAC) Ariel Nickell had a record-breaking day. The senior scored 28 points and corralled 13 rebounds. The Tazewell, Tennessee native now has 2,410 points for her career; this total marks the most ever scored by a basketball player in school history. Robert Marcum, an All-American guard who finished his career in 1996 and led ALC’s men’s squad to four consecutive national tournament appearances, is the men’s all-time scoring leader with 2,400 points.

Joining Nickell in double figures was guard Carla Booth, who continued her stellar play as she drained 20 points and dished out 6 assists. Courtney Crowder contributed a big game as well, finishing with 13 points and 7 rebounds.

Heather Wheat led the Lady Grenadiers (10-10, 5-5 KIAC) with 23 points.

The Lady Eagles will rest until February 6th when they go on the road to play Cincinnati Christian at 6 PM.
