The Alice Lloyd Eagles traveled to Barbourville, Kentucky on Wednesday, January 8th, to take on the Union College Bulldogs. The Eagles were never able to find their groove on this night as the home team took this contest, 98-72.

ALC was looking to start 2014 at 2-0, coming off a win at home against conference rival Cincinnati Christian. In the first five minutes, Alice Lloyd kept it close, but Union started to pull away with about twelve minutes to go in the opening stanza. A UC three by Tashan Hairston sparked an 11-6 run for about a three-minute span to make it 30-15. Ultimately, the Bulldogs went to the locker room with a 51-34 cushion.

Things didn’t get much better for Alice Lloyd (7-6, 2-1 KIAC) in the second half. Union was able to build on their halftime advantage and outscored the Eagles, 47-38. The outcome of this match-up is in stark contrast to the first meeting between these two teams in November. In that game, the Eagles were able to defeat the Bulldogs by 7 in a tough battle in Pippa Passes. However, with the home crowd behind them, Union’s bench scored an impressive 49 points to ALC’s 13. The Bulldogs were excellent overall offensively, shooting 47% from the floor and a respectable 35% from beyond the arc. Alice Lloyd surrendered 52 points in the paint.

Tyler Brewer had the biggest impact for the visitors on this night as the freshman had 19 points to go along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Tyler Rogers and Cody Stumbo contributed 12 points apiece.

Union’s (12-3, 6-1 AAC) DeAntray Stevens led his squad with 19 points.

The Eagles return to the court in Pippa Passes on January 11th for a big conference bout with Point Park University. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 4 PM.
