The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles were back on their home floor on Tuesday night, November 12th, against the University of Pikeville. The Lady Eagles won this game in impressive fashion, 93-84.

ALC entered this game looking to avenge a Saturday, November 9th, loss to Milligan on their home court. It was no easy task to defeat UPike’s Lady Bears, who were playing their first game of the season. In the first half, the Eagles fell behind as Pikeville could not be stopped on the offensive end, especially from beyond the arc. The contest was close until Pikeville made a run late in the first half to extend their lead to eleven. At the buzzer, ALC’s Courtney Crowder put back a missed free throw, and UPike returned to their locker room with a 48-40 advantage.

In the second stanza, the homestanding Lady Eagles rallied. Alice Lloyd decided that they had had enough of Pikeville’s three-point shooting. The Lady Eagles ratcheted up the pressure on defense and came alive on the offensive end, outscoring their rivals 53-36. ALC made the necessary adjustments against UPike, a team that had yet to face a test this season. The Lady Eagles extended their lead to a wider margin in the late stages and sealed the victory.

Ariel Nickell claimed another double-double with 32 points and 12 rebounds, while Carla Booth had one of her own with 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 6 assists. Courtney Crowder and Amber Shepherd also had nice performances with 14 points each.

Pikeville was led by Callisha Johnson with 21 points.

Next up, the Lady Eagles will travel to Milligan College to participate in the Milligan College Classic. Their first opponent will be Selma University out of Alabama on Friday, November 15th, at 6 PM. They’ll have to make a quick turnaround as they return to action on Saturday, November 16th, at 12 PM versus Montana’s Carroll College.
