College isn’t cheap, but thanks to donations from people like you, it is more feasible for a college student to be able to get an education. I have been a student at Alice Lloyd College for two years now, and I am starting on my third. If I hadn’t come to Alice Lloyd College, I would probably be working in the coal mines, struggling to make it in these tough economic times. Now, I am on the right path to a great career in Business Administration.

Most of the students here at Alice Lloyd have other jobs off campus in addition to work-study to help pay for their personal expenses, and almost all have a summer job. As for myself, I work weekends during school, on breaks, and seven days a week during the summer. I do automotive collision repair as well as industrial sandblasting and industrial painting for Feltner’s Body Shop. I love my job. Vehicles have been a passion of mine since I was a young child. I have worked at the same shop for almost four years now, and the work experiences I have gathered from my actual job and work-study at Alice Lloyd have helped propel me to be a student supervisor of janitors at the June Buchanan Alumni Center.

I just wanted to let you know that your donations are not wasted at ALC. Your money helps fuel the Appalachian Leaders College Scholarship, which is awarded to Appalachian students who need help financially but who want to earn their education. These students are just like me, and they appreciate what you have done to make sure that we have the opportunity to receive a quality education. Words cannot express how thankful I am that you have contributed to my education, someone whom you do not even know!

Help us continue the work of Mrs. Alice Lloyd and countless others by giving to Alice Lloyd College! With gifts from people like you, we can continue to offer a quality education to the young people of Appalachia. Click here to make your gift today!
