On Sunday, December 2nd, Alice Lloyd’s Caney Convocation Series concludes with the presentation of the Voices of Appalachia’s Christmas concert. This event is always a highlight on our calendar, and we encourage the public to join us on this special night. Admission is free.

The Voices of Appalachia sing traditional carols, as well as Christmas songs associated with the Appalachian region.  “I Wonder As I Wander” usually makes the list, along with “Mary’s Lament,” “Simple Gifts,” and “O Holy Night.”  The choir, under the direction of Mr. Richard Bowers, recently performed a number of its Christmas selections at a tribute event for the folksinger Jean Ritchie, which culminated in a rousing standing ovation.

Please join us this Sunday at 7:30 PM in the Estelle Campbell Center for the Arts (CAC) on the campus of Alice Lloyd College for what will be an excellent kick-off to the Christmas season.

For those of you who can arrive a little bit early, a small bluegrass ensemble will be performing from 7 until 7:30 PM. Prior to the show, the Voices of Appalachia will be selling coffee and CDs in order to raise money for their upcoming tour, so be sure to check that out.
