One of the newest student organizations at Alice Lloyd College, the Social Entrepreneurship Program (SEP) strives to help students develop their potential as servant-leaders.  The program, founded by ALC alum and current staff member Kayla Davidson Jones, helps students develop their own ideas into business projects with real world applications.  Students are paired with mentors in their fields of interest and are encouraged to seek out innovative ways to solve problems facing our community today.

On October 28, SEP students Jenny Ly, Emmanuel Joseph, and Eliza Burton traveled with Kayla Davidson Jones and Natalie Gibson (Director of Marketing and Communications) to the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation’s Service & Social Entrepreneurship Fall Retreat.  This three-day seminar was held at the Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, North Carolina.  Students had the opportunity to interact with successful social entrepreneurs such as Perry Wilson (pictured with ALC students and staff), founder of the “If I Had A Hammer” program which allows students to participate in hands-on mathematics curriculum through carpentry work.  After this fantastic retreat, students are now working on their individual projects and are planning various on-campus seminars to get other ALC students excited about social entrepreneurship.
