The 2010-11 edition of the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles basketball team opened their season on a high note as they defeated the home standing, and defending NCCAA National Champions, Kentucky Christian University Lady Knights 67-50 on Tuesday night.New ALC head Coach John Mills saw his team get off to a torrid start. Behind five first half bombs from sharp shooting guard Bailey Gabbard, and excellent field goal shooting from the entire team, the Eagles exploded to a 41-18 halftime lead.The outcome was never in doubt as ALC quickly pushed their lead to as many as 29 points in the second half and coasted to victory.For the victors (1-0), they were led by the senior Gabbard with 19 points. Freshman forward Ariel Nickell made her collegiate debut a memorable one as she connected on 7-8 from the floor to finish with 17 points. For good measure, she also hauled down a game high 12 rebounds.Senior guard Whitney Frazier played an outstanding game as the floor general connected on 7-10 field goals to finish with 14 points. She added a game high 7 assists.Also in double figures was senior Chelsea Jarrell with 11 points. She added 6 rebounds, and helped Alice Lloyd win the battle of the boards (37-35).The Eagles connected on 55% from the field, while their sticky defense limited the Knights to only 28% shooting.{nl}{nl}
